Snow Day: no springy blog posting here

This is the picture of what I woke up to this morning.

A spring snow day!

We interrupt this blog posting that was slated for today on what to wear on the first day or spring to bring you: “what to do on this snow day and what are you wearing in the freezing cold day” blog post.  geeze…just when you think you are safe to bring out the spring clothes mother nature dumps a pile of snow the day before the first day of spring and adds another snow day so the kids are off from school today.  Thank goodness I did not switch over my winter closet to the spring closet the other day as today I am wearing my fleece leggings, cuddle duds and fleece turtle neck and of course still ugg boots (yeah, I realize they are not trendy but they are warm, so there!)  Luckily my husband is working from home today so we are switching off checking email, calls, work business to tend to the dozens of arguments that have already took place this morning. It is only 9:30. So here is what we have on the agenda today for the kids last snow day off from school of the season (yes, this WILL be the last snow day,so enjoy!)

1.  Play in the snow – have to enjoy it while it is here cause warm weather is right around the corner!

2. Bake something – ok, you all know I am not the bake from scratch person and luckily I have a brownie mix and cinnamon rolls readily available!

3.  We are going to make sure all is set for school tomorrow early, so there is no running around at the last minute tonight and we can enjoy a family movie tonight – red box here we come!

4.  I knew I saved the hot chocolate kit for something special. This kit I bought after the holidays comes complete with big square marshmallows and peppermint sticks! yum!

5.  The kids love to walk in the neighborhood after the snow fall and check on our neighbors and we will probably have the neighborhood kids over to play outside or quietly inside.

ok! That will take us about 1 hour so any more suggestions on what to do for the next 8 hours on this snow day?  lol!

Saint Patty’s Day -Traditions?

I feel bad. While my kids and I did wear green yesterday, we were so busy that we did not celebrate Saint Patty’s Day the way it should be celebrated!  Or should I say, they kept reminding me about putting their shoes by the door so they could get their chocolate treats day.  How do they hear about these things? Is that really a tradition?  I know about wearing green and wearing a shamrock but green food? I did love seeing the green bagels when I ran to grab us breakfast sandwiches in the morning and my husband did stop at a local bar for corned beef and cabbage, but no parade for us or Irish songs.

Today is a great celebration for us as we celebrate my dad’s 85th birthday! My sister told me yesterday he was to be a Saint Patty’s day baby but my grandmother didn’t seem to mind he came a day late (she was Italian, born in Italy, his dad’s family was from Scotland as was my mother’s father. It was my mother’s side – her mother’s mother that was Irish – are you still following?) I know everyone is a wee bit Irish on Saint Patrick’s Day!  Anyway… my kids get to see grandpa, celebrate with a big turkey pie (more on turkey pie Monday in another blog post) and of course have a nice cake to celebrate!  Our family tradition we started a few years ago with the sister’s birthdays is we take each other out to lunch and the person’s who’s birthday it is gets to pick the place.  Last week the four sisters got together to take my dad out for lunch. He loves this tradition! What are you holiday/family traditions?

Weddings have changed too!

Last week I wrote about how baby showers have changed and this past weekend I went to a wedding and the whole experience was wonderful and just a great time for all of us (yes, the kids were invited and yes, they were well behaved and had a great time as well) Here are some of the things that were quite different than when we got married (almost 16 years ago)

1.  We were welcomed to our hotel room with gift bags! Yes, the kids received them too. Most of the people from our wedding were not from out of town but this nice touch really made my kids feel welcome.  We stayed at the Cranwell Resort and Spa and it was grand!  The wedding was here too and it was truly a destination!

2. Not only was the cake outstanding but chocolate seemed to be a theme. They had an after party after the reception but it was too late for us but the mother of the bride gave my girls a sweet present of S’mores and chocolate wrapped up so they felt like they didn’t miss out.  The cake was from Chocolate Springs Cafe in Lenox and we visited there and bought some chocolate! It was gone in 20 minutes and tasted so good. It was THE best chocolate I have had in a long time!

3.  Flip Flops – I know this has been a trend for a while but not when I got married. There was a basket of flip flops available when our feet started to hurt from all the dancing. Very nice touch.

4.  Brunch the next day – the kids really enjoyed the brunch buffet with the make your own omelet station and we really enjoyed the fresh squeezed orange juice.

5.  Finally the one thing that seemed to change is that we were the old group! lol! Everyone was so young!

All dressed for the wedding!

Spring is in the air…I think @MiddlesexCommon @OldNavy

Well, with weather in New England you just never know if spring is actually here until way past April.  Last night I could feel a touch a spring as the girls and I tried on dresses @OldNavy for an upcoming fashion show at @MiddlesexCommon. I was so sleep deprived from the daylight savings time that I forgot to take photos!  But I do love the selection of spring dresses and cute outfits at Old Navy. It seems yellow, orange and flower print is in. I love the color combinations this spring as well.  We did a bit of shopping this weekend and this yellow outfit for my 8 year old is from the gap and the gray dress is from Old Navy. Come see us @MiddlesexCommon on Saturday, March 30th from 1-3 for a fun spring fashion show!

Product Review: Physicians Formula @PFCosmetics

I have a ton of lip glosses, lip sticks, lip crayons, etc. and when I come across a new one I just have to try it! But no all of them work so well and when you are on the run and need to put on lip gloss in a hurry, where’s the mirror?  That is why I love pHmatchmaker pH powered lip gloss. This lip gloss by Physicians Formula reacts to your own lip pH and creates a flattering color just for you that lasts for 10 hours. It also has an LED powered cap so you can see your lips when you apply. Did I mention the mirror on the side?? What a fab idea. They are fragrance free, gluten and paraben free. The cost is $9.95.

I also tested out a few of Physicians Formula’s other great products. The sexy booster glossy stain is another great product. It is a gloss and stain hybrid formula that lasts 12 hours. They infused it with ingredients that mimic the effect of pheromones and it has a scent of vanilla and musk. It comes in red and pink and it is $9.95.

I also loved the Happy Booster, a glow and mood boosting illuminating bronzing veil. Made of powdered heats in a compact, the gold and bronze hearts provide a shimmery glow of bronzer.  It costs $13.95.

The mineral wear talc-free airbrushing pressed bronzer SPF 30 is an ultra fine pressed bronzer that is perfect for sensitive or breakout-prone skin. It has Vitamins A & E and formulated with Chamomile, Ginseng and Green Tea for a flawless look. It comes in light bronzer and bronzer and costs $13.95.

Next time you need a good makeup line check them out online and most every CVS!

A better natural deodorant? @mygeodeo

Is your deodorant working for you? Have you checked the ingredients on the label? In an effort to try to find myself a product that works and does not have yucky chemicals in it, I discovered GEODEO Natural Deodorant Plus Detox Complex. The 97% natural deodorant glides on clear and provides 24 hours of protection without the use of aluminum, parabens and silicone. It actually uses volcanic minerals and Icelandic algae to fight impurities found in the body and fight daily buildup. It does not block pores. It allows the pores to excrete toxins naturally through the process of sweating but the active enzymes in GEODEO helps neutralize body odors. It also contains bamboo and aloe to nourish the skin as well as contains vitamin E! The Island is my favorite as smells great.  It is available in Unscented, Ocean and Island and costs $5.99.  Check it out!

Baby Showers Have Changed!

I recently went to two baby showers within the last month. Both my husband’s friends’ wives were having little ones. (finally!)  The fun certainly has changed!  Both were very fun but I don’t remember playing games and getting prizes when my friends were having showers. At the first one it was co-ed and there was a game of Pictionary to start off the festivities. It was men against the women and we had to draw baby items – that was a riot! The other shower consisted of adorable games of guessing what baby items were in the paper bag or what type of baby food was in the jar (people actually tasted it!) But my favorite game was a take on the newlywed game in which the couple had to guess questions about the pregnancy. It was so much fun. Everyone left with a prize too!

Grocery shopping with kids!

Last night I took my kids grocery shopping. Yes, both of them…together…at night! When I do the grocery shopping I just like to do it by myself and rarely do I take the kids with me. But last night they were so cute and we really had fun as they started to notice the larger size items in the store. Who??…they thought could eat all this? The photos were funny.  They really wanted me to get their favorite cheese in an enormous size! This was probably one of the funniest trips I had with them so I will definitely take them with me again!

So after last night I remembered when they were younger they did go shopping with me on occasion but not before I set up a few rules:

1. I would let them pick out two treats each. No more sneaking an extra bag of chips or cookies when I was not looking

2. Any whining and it’s an immediate, “we are leaving” (and without those treats!)

3.  They do have to help with the bringing in the bags and putting stuff away. This is still hard for them to do.

4.  Stick together. No wondering around the store (especially in the cookie isle)

5. Stick to the list. I’ve tried this myself and it is hard but if you refer back to, “Is that on the list?” if no, then we cannot get it this time.

Now that I recall if I set the rules beforehand my kids were pretty well behaved. Do you shop with your kids or no?

My kids thought the larger sized items were funny!

Cheese!
