We have a pretty busy schedule during the week and coupled with the fact that I am not a cook….well, deciding what to “prepare” for dinner is always a challenge! I was lucky to receive a few ingredients for meals delivered to my door courtesy of Blue Apron. This delivery service provides you with all the ingredients and a step by step guide to cook the dinner. You can choose the day day that works best (free delivery) and all the ingredients arrive in a refrigerated box so food stays fresh. All the ingredients are measured for you. What I like about Blue Apron is that you can try it out and cancel it at any time if you decide it’s not for you. But you have to try it! It makes cooking fun as it takes the work away! It really is a great way to introduce you to new recipes and flavors too- hello….I had no idea what Gai Lan was or anise pods but I cooked with them and the dinner was delish!
Blue Apron sent us two dinners – mexican spiced turkey burgers and star anise & soy-glazed cod. I love how there is a one sheet with color photos with all the ingredients in a simple, step by step guide (because…you know I can’t cook) My kids loved the turkey burgers and we when we said Gai Lan was Chinese broccoli, well they ate it up!
I also appreciated that the prep time was 10-15 minutes so that you are not spending hours cooking – a bonus! Price per serving for a family is low as $8.74 (less than a dinner out) The food was really tasty and something I would have never cooked on my own. We will be ordering again down the road for sure! Below are a few photos. The cod dish was a big hit and the family was so hungry that I had no photos of that dish – but it was fresh, easy to make and very unique ingredients!

They have great holiday gift ideas and some beauty items as gifts as well. What I like about BJs Wholesale is that it’s one stop shopping – they even have wine and jewelry! You can do some grocery shopping and grab a few gifts as well. The company sent me gift cards to do a bit of holiday shopping and you could get lost in there with all the isles! The stocking stuffer items they have range from chocolate, lip glosses and a nice jewelry selection has multiple goodies to choose from. I like their book isle as well – books are a nice gift and as they are reasonably priced at Bjs you can bundle them together ! The store even had snow pants from the Rugged Bear – which I am regretting not getting so I may go back. The PJ pants and socks section was filled so stop in that isle too. If you are hosting or heading to friends or family the holiday season BJs Wholesale has a nice cheese selection to put together a cheese plate and a nice selection of crackers to choose from. I picked up some packages of chocolate – who doesn’t love chocolate for the holidays! While I can’t guarantee there will be no lines these last few days before Christmas there, my suggestion is to head there right when they open tomorrow (or go late this evening!) Happy Shopping!

Stop & Shop is is pumping it up this season – with their pumpkin inspired creations from @StopandShop. The grocery store has some very unique pumpkin flavored offerings in store this fall – actually 45 pumpkin inspired creations like pasta sauce, tortilla chips, waffles and even ice cream! I received a lovely package from @stopandshop and got to test out the sauce and the pumpkin seed tortilla chips and both were tasty! They usually have these unique flavored items in store seasonally (remember limoncello for the summer??) Yum! Check out the line the next time you are at Stop & Stop.

I have not been to BJ’s wholesale club in a while and I was certainly missing out! They have a great optical section, coupon books with extra savings, a few samples of food for the kids to try and of course items in bulk that any family can use for back to school season. Just last week I was at BJ’s Wholesale Club to film a segment with @NECN for what products to buy or not to buy this time of year (more to come on that in the next post) and took along my older daughter. She was very happy to shop for back to school snacks but put in so many items in our cart that we went a bit overboard. You have to be strategic about this back to school snack shopping! Here are a few tips if you plan to bring your kids along with you (yes, they can help)
1. It can be very fun to shop here but it can be overwhelming so have a plan on which items you want to buy and stick with it. Because if you don’t one turn down the candy isle and the kids will go crazy. FYI…This is THE place to get your Halloween candy.
2. So if your plan is to get some back to school snacks be picky in each category. For example we chose one case of chips, one case of juice boxes, one granola bar box – as tempting as it was for my daughter to choose 7 snack options – you have to set a limit!
3. Know what your kids like – My daughter picked out a new brand of granola bars (and she is very picky) so I thought oh great – what if she does not like them, then I have 500 left over! It is best to stick with favorites here! Fyi….the bars were Cascadian Farms organic chewy granola bars and I love them!

Thanks to a great group of blogging buddies I was invited to a wonderful lunch @VineBrookTavern in Lexington. I have eaten here before but they are going to be open for lunch soon and on the menu today was a selection of brunch type items that were so yummy. Management also shared with us that they will offer signature pizzas to go at night so if you are out and about in Lexington running around with the kids and want to take a pizza to go this is the place to get it! You can make your own pizza creation or choose from their signature pizzas including a steak burger pizza or a prosciutto, arugula and blue cheese one! We also got to test out THE BEST french toast I have ever tried! It was a crispy french toast (challah bread in case you were wondering) soaked with custard and had maple pecan butter on the side. I shared my dish with @ohbabyboston! The grilled steak sandwich had arugula, fire roasted red pepper triple cream brie on a baguette and their house chips. Try to brunch with your friends if you can and visit them soon! (check out the website here)

We just had our family birthday celebration as both my kids birthdays are in July, 5 days apart. We usually have a low key barbeque but getting in something healthy is always a challenge. I am so glad that crudite creationssent us a lovely arrangement to help celebrate! When family members walked into the party they immediately noticed this colorful arrangement but did not realize it was vegetables! Then everyone began to dig in – kids too. All the veggies were so good and the dips they have taste great. We had humus and white bean dip. It really is a nice way to bring color (and a healthy serving of veggies) to your gathering and/or centerpiece for a get together. I really liked the fact that it was delivered to your door. It is perfect for a hostess gift, shower or any special party. AND yes, it really it all veggies – those longer stems that look like a beautiful flower is actually celery. So elegant!

Mother’s Day is almost here! For those of you who need a reminder (men out there…) It’s this Sunday, May 11th. What do most moms want? Something thoughtful? Yes. flowers again? No. If you can’t figure out what sweet treat to get for mom this year, I know what I just received that was tasty and good for you – an arrangement from Edible Arrangements. They are so good that be warned…once you open it up it will be gone in a flash!
I wanted to open up the arrangement so I could take a photo so you all could see how it arrived very nicely presented. Oh, so I couldn’t resist taking just one chocolate covered strawberry. I wrapped it back up and put in the refrigerator in the garage and got back to work. Then I was thinking about how good that strawberry was….so I went back to the garage and unwrapped it again taking another…. this went on a few more times! Then my younger daughter arrived home and I wanted to show her the bouquet. Well, she just had to taste it too..(she loves fruit!) All in the family agreed it was yummy (but there was no way this would last until Sunday for the table decoration!) But we did enjoy it!
The Mother’s Day Bouquet™ featuring an assortment of chocolate-dipped strawberries, heart-shaped pineapple and other fresh fruit favorites is a great gift that makes everyone in the family smile. All of their arrangements are made fresh in local stores daily and available for same day delivery. You can order by calling 877 Do Fruit or visit their web site at edible arrangements.

I so enjoyed a luncheon at DelFrisco’s this past weekend. What an amazing menu selection – the food was just fantastic. Here are just some of the amazing dishes we were able to sample. The onion rings were great and I don’t even like onion rings. The crab cake was the best one I have ever tasted and each of the steaks served, from the filet to the prime strip was cooked perfectly. The best part was the desert. It was the biggest slice of lemon cake ever and so light and tasty.
The restaurant is located in the seaport district and the views are amazing. Check it out.
