Happy Valentine’s Day!

There has been so much talk of what to buy for Valentine’s Day and the best gifts that I decided to write about something a little bit different for this day and talk about a trend that my 6 year just loves to do….shop your closet.

My 6 year old asked me if I was going to talk about her in my blog post and I told her I would! Especially because she made me think about this trend – shopping in your closet!

Yes, on many occasions she shops in my closet and puts together the most adorable outfits. This past weekend she put together this outfit for me (didn’t even know I had the necklace). Both her and my 9 year old are quite the fashionistas – see other picture below.  There are so many ways to update your look this upcoming spring season with pieces you already have in your closet – think cargos with bright colors like orange or pink or gold jewelry with that black dress your own and snakeskin is big – from accessories to dresses.  Just take an inventory of what you already have and throw out what you have not worn and go from there….

Snack Time

At any time I can look in my kitchen cabinet and find a snack. Would they be healthy? Sometimes yes and sometimes maybe not. But I try!  I do love anything that comes in those 100 calorie packs! Emerald 100 calorie natural almonds are great with Fage total 2% greek yogurt.  But then again I like the oreo crisps and the cheese balls! Thank you to parenting magazine for listing some healthier grab and go snacks. Can’t wait to try the granola bites.

What’s in your bag?

I love how US weekly interviews celebs and shows what’s inside their pocketbooks. I have a ton of stuff in mine (as you can see) but now it’s nice and neat and easy to reach thanks to Jen Groover’s invention The Butler Bag. She created the world’s first compartmentalized bag.

What a great idea!  Each of your items fits into the different slots inside the bag so they are easy to reach. No more digging at the bottom of your purse for keys! Can you believe she thought of this idea by putting a dishwasher tray right in her purse? I just made over the contents of my purse and here are my must have items to keep in my handbag:

My wallet, keys and iphone of course!

My favorite lip balm and lip gloss by Tarte and Alba coconut cream lip gloss

Mini first aid kit with Neosporin

CleanWell hand sanitizer and wet ones hand wipes

Nail file and mini hair brush/comb

Pen and notebook

Listerine breath strips and when my kids don’t swipe it – GUM

My all time favorite hand cream Arbonne FC5 ultra-hydrating hand cream

Now there’s an idea!

I was so excited when I attended the Massachusetts Conference for Women back in December as it was a fun filled day of seminars, speaker conferences, meeting talented and successful entrepreneurs and soaking up all the information to make your business stand out.  It was there that I met Jen Groover  – an entrepreneur, designer, author, speaker and mentor. She is creator of the Butler Bag and founder of the launchers cafe (https://www.launcherscafe.com)

I’m glad I met her and read her latest book “What If & Why Not?”. I rarely have time to read a book but this was so informative and a must read for any woman looking to embark on a business adventure (or for those stuck in a current business looking for new ideas or new ways to address an old problem)  In this book she gets you thinking about what it takes to get moving on your ideas and think outside the box especially when someone says that won’t work. Why not?  https://www.whatifandwhynot.com

She was so nice to send this trendymommy her Butler Bag! It looks so functional I cannot wait to test it out and let you know what I think!

Itchy, Itchy, Scratchy, Scratchy. Ugh Dry Skin

It’s that time of the year and the cycle continues - Itchy, scratchy dry winter skin.  Some moisturizers are too perfumy, too oily, or contain ingredients you cannot pronounce. Who wants that? In my never ending quest to use more natural products I am glad I got to test out the Kiss my Face moisturizer and their new sudz line shower gel.

C’s the day moisturizer is made with certified organic oils and herbs and Ester-C and does not contain parabens, phthalates or synthetic colors or fragrances. The Honeysuckle Tangerine has natural oils of tangerine, honeysuckle, almond  and clove oil for a yummy spring like fragrance. The grapefruit and lemongrass sudz shower gel is refreshing, lathers nicely and again has no parabens or phthalates, no animal ingredients and is not tested on animals. They have everything from lip balm to hair care and a great kids line too.  You can find Kiss my Face at your local whole foods or https://www.kissmyface.com

How do you handle dry winter skin? Comment below on the post and subscribe to our newsletter or send an email to [email protected] and we’ll choose a winner and post by Monday Jan. 31st! Good luck!

Jewels….

I know quite a few trendymommies who will have their eyes glued to the Golden Globes award show tonight. Can’t wait to see the fashions and jewelry!  Speaking of jewelry I am admiring these for the moment:  Marc by Marc Jacobs enamel disc drop earrings. I love a black and white look this time of year and pair these black and white earings with a crisp and clean white shirt and you’ll look great!  I also love this newest bangle bracelet from Kate Spade. The black eyed susan hinged flower bangle goes with everything!

List, goals, resolutions. Top must have’s for my kids 2011

As I mentioned before, I decided to make goals – not resolutions as resolutions tend to get broken easily.  I decided to share this current trend with my two girls and they liked the idea but of course what was their first goal? To get a puppy ASAP!

Both my hubby and I take complete responsibility for planting this seed in their heads as we started on this path of visiting animal rescues in our area and we almost walked away with one adorable german shepherd puppy. But we did not end up getting it, which leads everyone in the family to moan whenever the puppy discussion comes up – remember MAYA?

I did start out researching as I think it could be a nice addition to our family and when we originally asked what others thought on facebook about our MAYA dilemma many people’s response was not to do it! I know it takes a lot of work and we are nervous about having a dog as each of us has never had a dog before.  I just think the right one has not come along yet. We also have to figure out what breed we wanted. I really want a non-shedding dog, the kids want a small, white fluffy dog and of course the hubby wants a GSD. In any case I have done tons of research and dogs are quite expensive (especially when it’s the fluffy, white purebred type!) So we will add this to the list of goals (and savings account). Some great resources include:  https://www.petfinder.com or https://www.nextdaypets.com.    I am already envisioning the cute little puppy items we will need!
