Prom Stroll

Our town has this event where all the kids walk down the center of town in their prom attire. It is such a nice community event and my girls wanted to go see their babysitter and neighbors all dressed up. Times have changed – I do not remember the dresses being that fancy when I went to the prom. The colors and styles of the dresses were so beautiful and they all looked grown up!  The boys attire was just as fancy.  Speaking of the prom when did it start to be referred to as just prom and when did “the” get dropped? Makes me feel old!  Just another fun event in the June Juggle month of activities!

The June Juggle

June is a very busy month. Not only are the kids summer swim and dive team practices starting, but there are birthday and graduation parties, end of the year sports parties and last practices and try outs for fall sports. We talked how to balance it all on today’s trendymomies report on 980 WCAP-AM. We also started talking about gifts for father’s day!

Embracing Technology

I told myself this was the year I would embrace technology.  For Christmas and my birthday my husband bought me the iphone 5 and mini i pad. I finally bought myself a nook (with glowlight!) For mother’s day my husband bought me a laptop. So far I only opened up the nook a few times. While I went away for girls weekend in Miami my friend had her kindle and was like, “how come you are not reading on your new nook?”  I just wanted to relax, enjoy the scenery and not have to worry about finishing the book! anyway… I hope to use all my new technologies more often. It is amazing how technology continues to change. Remember when no one had a cell phone? How did we ever get by without a quick check of facebook, twitter, email, instagram…..

I am also loving the cases for my new devices.  I discovered these really cool cases from BUILTny. The company sent me a couple to test out for my ipad and then I bought myself one for my laptop. I like the material. It is made from NEOPRENE (like the wet suit material) and they really do offer Great protection. Check it out!

Disclosure: builtNY send me a couple kindle, mini-ipad cases to test out; all opinions in this post are my own

Memorial Day Weekend

This day is always a tough day to go back to work after being off since Friday. It was a relaxing weekend but a cold one. There was actual snow in New Hampshire!   This is the weekend to kick off the summer. Are you ready?

This weekend we went swimming, played tennis, basketball and even got a game in of volleyball (seldon v. seldon)  at our swim and tennis club. It is our first year joining so the kids are excited.  There is still about four more weeks of school left so we will have to finish all the sporting events and then it’s on to swim, dive and tennis! Now let’s bring on the warm weather!

Surviving a concert with your tween girls @Kiss108 #KC13

It has been a while since I went to a concert. Clearly, as everyone was waving their smart phone lights instead of bic lighters! Things have changed a lot.  My husband and I took our girls ages 8 and 11 to the @Kiss108 concert and we saw lots of kids without parents. The majority were tween girls ages 14-18 wearing very little shorts and t-shirts! yikes! Luckily our kids still like to spend time with us (sometimes for the 11 year old)

When I was young we were not allowed to go to a concert with friends. My sister took me to see Rick Springfield when I was 13. (she is a lot older than me so more like a mom) Here are the things I was most surprised about.

1. The line to get in the actual parking lot (and to leave) – I just don’t remember this stress when I was young. My husband had this great idea of tailgating but the traffic was so bad we had a few lemonades, a handful of chips and ran to the entrance.

2. This was a LONG concert – especially for the eight year old – but I was surprised to see kids even younger than her there and without ear plus. Am I the only one with ear plugs?

3.  The attire. Oh gosh…I am not looking forward to the teenage years. The rule should be if you can see the pockets hanging out of the front of your jean shorts then….they are too SHORT – same is true if you can SEE your butt cheeks…….  Also, why wear a tank top if the sides are open or see through?

4. The parking spaces are not marked not even a letter to remember what isle you parked in. So REMEMBER where you parked your car.  Our goals was to leave as the last performer took the stage and watch/listen to her first song as we headed toward the exit, that way we would avoid the foot traffic and the car traffic exiting. But we both really did not pay attention to where we parked and ended up running around and panicking while swarms of people were exiting and we were just looking for our car!

5.  The cost of the additional items – Be prepared to buy the t-shirt, the water, the snack, the pizza etc.,  So bring LOTS of money. Or have them drink lots of water before you go in. The price of bottled water was almost $5.00! Ouch. The two t-shirts were $50.  But ahhhhhhh…. the memories they will have!

A new anti-aging beauty line and cleansing wipes @FirstAidBeauty

I am liking any type of quick cleansing wipes and ones that cleanse, tone and refresh all in one are the best. My biggest pet peeve with cleansing wipes is that some are not moist enough. First Aid Beauty sent me a few products to test out and I love them all, including the cleansing wipes. First Aid Beauty’s New gentle cleansing wipes are great if you are in a hurry and need a quick clean. My tweens especially like using them after sports if we are going to head to grab a bite to eat and they don’t have time for a shower! They are hypoallergenic, alcohol and oil-free. Both girls said they are pillow like and it felt like a cloud on their skin.

What I like even more about FAB products is that they are free of harsh chemicals like parabens, phthalates, alcohol, fragrances and artificial dyes. I really try hard to make sure my girls lean toward products like these that are safe and do not have any yucky chemicals in them.

I went on to test the FAB daily dose kit. This is an anti-aging beauty regimen at its best. It includes the face cleaner, the facial radiance pads, dual repair eye and face cream and the dual repair power serum. All are very soothing and safe for sensitive skin. It’s my new favorite line. Check out all their products online.
