This week I went to the launch event of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. Their new campaign Chicks Dig Bigs (as in big brothers) asks women to encourage a guy in their life to consider being a big brother. Did you know there are currently 800 boys in the Boston area who are waiting for a mentor?
BBBSMB also released a survey and the findings show that women admire and respect a guy who volunteers with youth.
The survey found that:
• Nearly nine in ten women (88%) are more likely to give an interview to a candidate who volunteers with kids. Millennial women (ages 18-34) feel more strongly (93%) than women ages 35-64 (85%).
• Nearly nine in ten women (88%) would boast about their significant other volunteering with kids to their friends. Millennial women (ages 18-34) are more likely to do so (92%) than women ages 35-64 (86%).
• If a guy has a couple hours of free time, women would prefer he spend it volunteering (79%) rather than going to the gym (52%), watching sports (33%), or shopping with them (56%).
Here is the most adorable video they released! Â Â https://youtu.be/ShsthzISePo

So my fitness goal for the fall was to start back up exercising. As lame as it sounds I get very little exercise in the summer in a structured way. Kids are home and combine that with work and their activities I tend to not head to a gym but rather get my exercise from any various activities we may do as a family (bike ride, surfing, etc.) When planet shoes asked me to participate in their sole sisters blogger campaign for their get fit challenge I was so excited. They would send me a new pair of sneakers and I would be motivated to start exercising again. It has been a slow start (see picture below!) I am having not only a hard time motivating myself but my dog as well!.
In all seriousness I do have fitness goals – but they are small. I wanted to walk the dog at least a mile every day. Now I am starting to up that and yesterday we went for a two mile walk. Today I even jogged with the dog! So the goal now is to vary the walks – not the same route, walk fast, uphill jog, etc. just to mix it up a bit. I also want to head back to my dance classes at idance boston
They have unique dance classes that I was attending regularly but it did not seem like a workout! I am not sure I can do a 5k (why does it seem like EVERYONE is participating in a 5k, mud run, 10k etc.) (I am not a runner so these events scare me!) There is even talk with my fellow bloggers to participate in a walk/run. I would be on the fast walk side! Well, with my new bright sneakers from skechers and with my fury walking buddy I think I could add a formal race to my list so stay tuned!
Disclosure:Â Planet Shoes sent me a pair of sneakers to test out and help me with my fitness goals. All opinions are my own.

What a fun event I attended the other night @bestyledblowdry. A few area bloggers were treated to a blow dry at this newest salon that just offers blow drys. No cuts, color or fuss – just a nice blow dry! The atmosphere at Be Styled in Chestnut Hill was fab! They have yummy treats in elegantly displayed vases and offered us tea and even a glass of champagne. They give a nice wash, offer deep conditioning treatments ($15.00) and any type of blow dry you want for $35.00. What?? You didn’t know there were types of blow drys? Neither did I! I usually just blow dry my hair straight. But after having a very nice consultation I went with the be swirly blow dry. It gives your hair a little wave and my stylist added a few turns of the curling iron. My hair looked great. I like how you can buy the mini style for your younger child and they even have 3, 6 and 12 packs of blow drys. The month of style is cool too with 4 blow drys,1 deep conditioning treatment, and 10% off all products. The staff is just great and it is a nice way to get a quick pampering for yourself. Also, I am going on day three of not washing my hair (yes, hair dressers say NOT to wash your hair every day) and it still looks great – with the swirl and all still in it!

Now that September is here so are the dark nail polishes – my favorite – think oxblood and navy colors this season. Of course you can always stick with traditional colors like red or my all time favorite from essie called ballet slippers which is a light pink. In fact these sheers from essie really never go out of style.  You have probably seen the already designed stickers like these from essie. I have yet to try them but they seem pretty easy to use and are very on trend right now. My go to favorite is OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark.Â
I also have a few kits to test out including a dark french manicure and the velvet manicure from Ciate. It’s just something a bit different to try and make your nails stand out!
