Summer is here and so are the mosquitoes! @allclearmister

I did enjoy my vacation but it is good to be back home! I love the warm summer nights in our backyard by the river but hate the mosquitoes! Now there is a great, natural solution for at home or even on the go – The Terminix ALL CLEAR mosquito lantern. It repels about 95% of biting mosquitoes from areas up to 300 sq. ft. which is perfect for our patio!  The set comes with the  Naturals mist solution, 4 AA batteries, a remote control and there is a hanging loop option and wall mount. It is safe to use around kids and pets. It is not too big so you can use it on camping or fishing trips and protects for up to 10 Hours.  It retails for $79.99 and it is a great gift idea.
Disclosure: the company sent me a lantern to review. All opinions are my own

What do you get dad for Father’s Day??  I love practical gifts so here are a few suggestions for gifts for dad this year!

  • Gift Bags!  You can put whatever you want in a bag or get one already made up.  My husband loves to bike and he loves Balance Bar®  as a sweet treat. Balance Bar is offering its first-ever Father’s Day Gift Set. The limited-edition Balance Bar Father’s Day Gift Set includes: fifteen Balance BAREâ„¢ bars in three delicious flavors – Sweet & Salty Peanut Butter; Sweet & Salty Chocolate Almond; and Blueberry Acai, a water bottle with a compartment for storing BARE bars and a card.
  • Sports Authority:  You name it my hubby loves this store and he loves the Under Armour Short Sleeve Tee($23.99). Made with a revolutionary fabric dye that reflects heat and UV rays and help dad stay cooler and more protected than ever before.
  • For a sweet treat try Yonanas. This is a small machine that turns frozen fruit into a dessert that looks and tastes like soft-serve ice cream without the help of milk, cream, sugar, etc. Yonanas is sold in major retailers nationwide for $49.99.
  • When you think technology you think gadgets for your phone, computer but here is one very interesting technology– polar pillow for a good night’s rest.   The scientifically formulated gel technology is designed to regulate body temperature disorders.  Thousands of micro air-beads will work to keep Dad cool while he sleeps and also provide a stable sleeping system that contours to the neck and head.  It requires no electricity, water or refrigeration-  the pillow works all by itself.

Last full week of school, last field trip- Let’s hear it for the teachers!

Today I volunteered for my second graders field trip. It was her last one for the year and the last one at this school. She moves onto 3rd grade in the fall, which in our town is a different school. The trip was right up the street from their school – Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge – and it was great to see the kids exploring and making observations. It was also a hoot to see some of the kids’ reactions! I have to give her teacher and the assistant teacher credit for their patience (especially with 20 kids near a pond of water!) They really are kind and gentle and were reminding the kids not to throw mud, dirt, or step in the ponds!  I do have a great deal of respect for our teachers as it seems like a very difficult job getting the kids to focus on the last week of school. Plus with so many little personalities in the classroom I am sure patience is a must! Let’s hear it for the teachers and hope they all have a wonderful summer to unwind!

Can’t be in two places at once! End of the school year rush

SO school is almost out and I really wanted to get in some last minute volunteering as both my kids are moving on to new schools. In our town we have grades k-2 in one school, 3-5 and then 6-8. My youngest is heading to 3rd grade and then middle school for the older one (ugh!) Between field day, challenge day, chorus concert, foreign language concert, 2nd grade party, cafeteria duty (or as us moms like to call it pee patrol!) I am running around like crazy! Throw in a few birthday parties, make-up soccer and lacrosse games and charity bike ride and I think I need to clone myself! (did I mention I have to work too?) How do you handle the end of the school year madness? Do you split it up with the hubby? I should learn to say no more. Instead I will be a ball of stress these last few weeks of school and then take a breath when our vacation arrives. Whew!

Summer is here?

What a great weekend to kick off the start of summer. The kids already saw one summer blockbuster movie!  We do have a few more weeks of school left (ugh!)  and that is what we talked about this week on 980 WCAP-AM.

Parfait anyone?

I am not one to write about recipes (we all know I cannot cook!) But I have to share this “dessert” my kids just love. I enjoy this treat for breakfast and make it for an after dinner treat for my kids and they love it too.  I think the parfait cups are what makes it the most wanted “treat” in my household. Plus, it’s healthy as I make it with fruit and nuts! So here is the recipe and photo!

Yogurt Parfait

1/2 cup Stoneyfield low fat french vanilla yogurt in a cup

Sprinkle a small amount of granola (we like Stop & Shop Nature’s Promise brand granola – any kind but the Banana Nut one is great)

Add some sliced almonds

Add frozen small blueberries and/or mango chunks (we also like the mini ones – Wyman’s of Maine. Actually eating them frozen by themselves is a treat too)

I will then add a few mini chocolate chips at the top

Enjoy!

It’s A Great Day to be A Dog!

I have never had a dog before so this is my first experience all things dog related. My puppy is 7 months old and very much a part of the family.  #iLoveMyK9 He loves treats and we like to share our treats with our puppy friends. Our puppy loves to shop with us too. We were on a doggy treat mission today!  For this doggy treat mission we wrote out our list and headed to the store.  We wanted to say thank you to our dog groomer and give her and her pups a special gift basket of dog treats.  Fetch It In Bedford is a wonderful place. It is a dog groomer, bakery and store all in one.  On our  trip we headed to Walmart with our list and checked out the signs. There was a good selection of food and treats available.  We chose to buy Pup-Peroni and Milo’s Homestyle Kitchen treats.  We also love Milk Bone but did not get the special kind we love which is the Milk Bone Trail Mix. It must be popular as they were all sold out!  They did have a lot of Milo’s treats which was great. I don’t know which one my pup likes better.  I would shop the dog treat selection at Walmart again. Although I would love to see more offerings as some of the shelves were empty. This shopping experience was quick and easy and of course I took several additional photos along the way.  As always at Walmart check out was easy – don’t all stores have their cashiers stand out in the isles to call shoppers over to their check out? I wish they all did this! When we arrived home we assembled our doggy gift basket with the help of our puppy (tried to keep him from eating our gift!) We then headed over to our groomer to present her with the treats and she along with the dogs there loved them!  Everyone should treat their groomer and their dogs to a special surprise every once in a while after all they make our pups look and feel good! Plus I am sure their pups along with mine would love to receive a gift of Pup-Peroni, Milo’s Kitchen Homestyle Treats and Milk Bone treats as well  – what dog wouldn’t?

Sun Safety and @ProtectaBub

As I have said before there are so many unique and helpful products on the market now versus when my 7 and 10 year olds were babies.  I remember having about 4 different strollers and now it seems you buy one stroller that does it all. I also remember the sun in my babies eyes ALL THE TIME and worrying about sun protection especially when they were newborns. Now that the warm weather is here and we are slathering on the sunscreen, for all the moms with little bitty babies out there (or toddlers too) you may want to get this product to protect your little one.  It is the Protect-a-Bub’s classic sunshade. This universal protective stroller canopy has an SPF 50 built into it.  It also fits car seats with a canopy as well so you can enjoy your adventures without worry! The company also makes a rain cover.  A pretty nice idea especially since a little nap time is key during stroller time. This product was endorsed by Melanoma International Foundation!

Check it out!

Disclosure: The company sent me a sunshade to review. All opinions are my own.
