What a week! Last week was April vacation for the kids and I am glad we stuck around Boston. We had three separate day trips to the beach all in New England in April and it felt like summer. It was also my birthday and I celebrated by participating in a fashion show at Copley Place sponsored by Smiling Stilletto to benefit Project Smile. My friend and I participated and it was glamorous getting our hair and make-up done and then strutting down the catwalk! This was the best April school vacation ever as I am sure my kids will agree too. Believe it or not I did squeeze some work in as well!

It should be a nice weekend for outdoor activities so get excited about the great outdoors and get active! In celebration of its 100th Anniversary, L.L.Bean has begun a year-long mission to re-ignite America’s love of the outdoors. Join the company for Discovery Day this Saturday, April 14th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Boston Common ( Corner of Boylston & Tremont Streets)
Expert guides from L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools® will lead various family-friendly outdoor activities on the Common. All activities are FREE. You and your kids can try fly-casting, knot-tying and several backyard-style games. They will have a mock campsite and you can finally figure out how to set up that tent!  Plus you may spot the L.L. Bean Bootmobile!
Mayor Menino will also be on hand at 9 a.m. to announce Boston’s Summer Kayak Series. This is a free program which will provide local children and families with the opportunity to try kayaking. The program will kick off on June 16 in Millennium Park in West Roxbury and will continue with events on June 23, July 14 and July 21. Kids can learn basic skills and safety, followed by a trip out onto the Charles River on a kayak! The kayaking sessions will be open to Boston residents ages eight years and older. How fun!

Happy Easter Weekend. This time of year we have a lot of special occasions and parties to attend.  This weekend is Easter and coming up we have a wedding, first communion for my seven year old and a Bat Mitzvah to attend. That means we need a few fancy outfits. Luckily I did have a few dresses that were given as gifts. I also matched my 7 year old’s yellow dress she had from last summer with an adorable skirt from the Gap for my 10 year old to wear. Tis ‘the season for pleats.  Similar, yes but not matchy, matchy. They are at the age where I certainly cannot get them to wear anything close to matching. I would love it if both girls wore these similar styles – a white dress with a green tie and this green dress but after trying unsuccessfully to get them to wear them together I think I give up!
Happy baseball day! As part of the annual ritual of opening day our grade school participates too! Parents volunteer and work with the school gym teacher and we set up stations so the kids can hit some balls! It is a fun way for parents to see their kids during gym and celebrate the opening of baseball season. Let’s hope this year the Red Sox’s season is a bit different!
