SKI SKI SKI

Winter Sports and The Family
You know it’s that time again – ski season is in full swing in the Northeast. I know, I hear it everywhere and I am sure you do too….. “we’ve got to get the kids on skis,”  We finally did last week.

But a word of warning:  Rent skis and test out the terrain before you make a commitment to purchase a whole ensemble for young kids and the family because I am sure you have heard…….it can get really expensive.  You know how fickle little 6 year olds can be!  So drumroll please…..here are a few tips for surviving the winter ski season with young kids.

Rent equipment and head to a local ski hill.  Check out your own backyard before you head to a monstrous mountain as young kids who are first starting out won’t be hitting the trails but sticking to the bunny slope!  One such resource (https://skiing.alpinezone.com/resorts.htm), can help you navigate.

Pack a healthy snack or lunch so kids have their bellies full before they head out on the slopes.  You mean you haven’t tried Lands End lunch bags (https://www.landsend.com/ix/girls-clothing/Girls/Backpacks-Bags-Lunch-Boxes/index.html?seq=1~2~3&catNumbers=400~491&visible=1~2~1&store=le&sort=Recommended&tab=4) they are really cute and functional!

There is a bag for everything. We all know kids should carry their own equipment but let’s face it after a few hours of skiing a three year old can get pretty cranky.  My husband developed a system.  Gloves, goggles and headsocks stuffed into helmets in one bag. Ski’s boots in another (when they are so young the skis are so tiny they can have their own bag.   I was checking out go ski (https://www.goski.com/gear/Bags_Luggage/Ski_Boot_Bags.html) the other day and they do have quite a selection!

Happy skiing!

a green year?

2008 is here! Are you prepared for the year ahead? Got those resolutions in check? This is the year for me to get organized (of course I always say that!) and to make a commitment to being more ecologically conscious -especially in my workspace.  I was wandering around https://www.seejanework.com  – my fav place to get office supplies and I discovered many eco friendly office products that will make the transition easy.  Everything from notebooks to pencils and even these nice soy diffusers – for a lovely smelling home office. https://www.seejanework.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=102&idproduct=789

Harried Halloween?

Good Monday morning – the countdown is on…for Halloween that is!  (how many of you were scrambling to find high school musical costume that would fit the little ones!
Well the good news is if you are like me and waited to the last minute you can probably find some costumes on sale (if there are still any left! it is next Wednesday after all).

Pottery Barn always has very cute outfits for the younger crowd.

Lillian Vernon also has some great deals on costumes and decor (get your stuff for next year now).

Your local craft store will have some great patterns if you are good at sewing and or course Marshalls and TJ Maxx have a great supply of costumes. A friend suggested to buy the Disney Store costumes after Halloween for next year or for dress up – now that’s smart.

Wash your hands please!

Now that school is in full swing..let the sickness begin!  Well let’s keep the germs at bay and I find myself saying all the time wash your hands please!  I love a good liquid soap. Bath & Body Works are great, but here are some  brands I just discovered that are pretty sweet.

I was in a restaurant in Boston and they had Molton Brown in the ladies bathroom – the whole room smelled nice. I also love the Lemon Verbena scenet that Mrs. Meyers makes.

You can also head to your local Target to pick up some too and, speaking of Target, Method, a line that’s available at Target, does the trick too. Many people say to stick to straight soap and water (remember ivory?)
