Love the outdoors? Celebrate this weekend with L.L. Bean in Boston!

It should be a nice weekend for outdoor activities so get excited about the great outdoors and get active!  In celebration of its 100th Anniversary, L.L.Bean has begun a year-long mission to re-ignite America’s love of the outdoors.  Join the company for Discovery Day this Saturday, April 14th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Boston Common ( Corner of Boylston & Tremont Streets)

Expert guides from L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools® will lead various family-friendly outdoor activities on the Common.  All activities are FREE. You and your kids can try fly-casting, knot-tying and several backyard-style games.  They will have a mock campsite and you can finally figure out how to set up that tent!   Plus you may spot the L.L. Bean Bootmobile!

Mayor Menino will also be on hand at 9 a.m. to announce Boston’s Summer Kayak Series. This is a free program which will provide local children and families with the opportunity to try kayaking.  The program will kick off on June 16 in Millennium Park in West Roxbury and will continue with events on June 23, July 14 and July 21. Kids can learn basic skills and safety, followed by a trip out onto the Charles River on a kayak! The kayaking sessions will be open to Boston residents ages eight years and older. How fun!

Enjoy the great outdoors this weekend!

Eco-Friendly Products!

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd. Today on 980 WCAP-AM we talked about Earth Day and my three new favorite products.  Listen in!

  • “De Vine” Lip shimmers are my newest, favorite lip balm.  Made in the U.S.A. of 100% natural ingredients, DeVine Lip Shimmers are the only ones on the market that contain all the benefits of wine, including Grapeseed Oil, and Red Wine Antioxidants (without the alcohol, of course.) The Lip Shimmers are gluten free, cruelty free and contains no pesticides, parabens, or other unkind chemicals. They are $4.50 each and come in 5 colors
  • Supergoop (supergoop.com)  is  my favorite sunscreen of all time, especially the wipes.
  • Glass bottles are very popular right now and two of my favorites are The bamboo bottle and the glass bottle from lifefactory.

Did someone say boat shoes? @SperryTopSider

Did you hear boat shoes are back? I did not even like them when they were really in but I did have a pair when I was young. They were so…..plain!  Thank goodness the company known for their boat shoes decided to add a little fashion and bling to the classic shoe. Sperry Top-Sider now has updated the footwear with a bit of flair!  Everything from high heels to the traditional shoe style with sequins and denim are being offered.

I love the Women’s Southampton Wedge Sandal and these shinny ones:  The Women’s Bahama Boat Shoe

Now what to wear with them…..

Easter Fashions

Happy Easter Weekend. This time of year we have a lot of special occasions and parties to attend.  This weekend is Easter and coming up we have a wedding, first communion for my seven year old and a Bat Mitzvah to attend. That means we need a few fancy outfits. Luckily I did have a few dresses that were given as gifts. I also matched my 7 year old’s yellow dress she had from last summer with an adorable skirt from the Gap for my 10 year old to wear.  Tis ‘the season for pleats.  Similar, yes but not matchy, matchy.  They are at the age where I certainly cannot get them to wear anything close to matching. I would love it if both girls wore these similar styles – a white dress with a green tie and this green dress but after trying unsuccessfully to get them to wear them together I think I give up!

Enjoy your Easter weekend!

Opening Day!

Happy baseball day! As part of the annual ritual of opening day our grade school participates too! Parents volunteer and work with the school gym teacher and we set up stations so the kids can hit some balls!  It is a fun way for parents to see their kids during gym and celebrate the opening of baseball season.  Let’s hope this year the Red Sox’s season is a bit different!

Baseball season has started!

Classic Handbags @coach

The March issue of People Style Watch – my favorite magazine – had a story in their fashion scoop section on how Coach revisits the classics. It seems every celebrity is now carrying classic purses. Coach has introduced its Coach Classics which is a collection of five of its most popular leather bag designs from the 1970s.  I have a few old school Coach bags just hanging in my closet that I rarely pull out -see picture.  It is nice to know that they are still in the best shape. I of course cannot say that about a few other non-leather designer purses I have.  I do love a good leather purse. I have a few designer fabric ones that just did not hold up as well as my leather coach ones have over the years. Here’s to the classics!

@innobaby Great storage solutions

I am always on the lookout for new storage solutions for my kids’ snacks.  I love anything stainless steel but just noticed a few companies are offering glass options too. One of those companies to follow is Innobaby. They offer innovative solutions for busy parents including really neat food storage -  both stainless steel and glass -  and great items for moms, kids and babies on the go. From their bottles, bowls, platters and containers everything is safe and non-toxic. They even have a Sleepin’ SMART™  all-in-one waterproof crib sheet. I think the glass storage items are the best.  The Keepin’ Freshâ„¢ GLASS Baby Food Storage is perfect for storing baby food (why didn’t they have this when my kids were young!) It is airtight, leakproof and actually oven, freezer and microwave safe. It is great for veggies and fruits and perfect to put in your purse!

The Keepin’ Freshâ„¢ Kids Stainless Drinking Cup Storage is perfect for on-the-go. The stainless tumbler is designed to store, pour, shake and sip with interchangeable accessories. So you can put water, juice, yogurt, shakes or even food items – it’s completely versatile. Check out their whole line of products which are non toxic, BPA, Phthalates, PVC and lead free.

Disclosure: The company sent me the above items to review. All opinions are my own.

@wcap: That Boston Accent, Spring Sports, etc.

We had a brief break from our winter sports season but hear it comes – the spring sports season and running around from activity to activity! This was the topic of this week’s trendymommies.com report on 980 WCAP-AM.

We also talked about Boston accents – which words we forget to say our “R”s and how in certain areas of the country a “tonic” is not a sprite or cola.

Listen in…
