It’s a decorating thing #teens @wayfair

It is that time of year when my tween and teen decide it is time to switch up their rooms and move everything around once again! Every once in a while they also decide to NOT share their big bedroom (with the bathroom and walk in closet) and one of them decides to move to the small room. Wayfair to the rescue! They have the perfect solutions for small spaces and any space really.  Plus my kids love looking on the site for decorating ideas. I do like how the site has inspiration boards as well. I love a good white dresser and nightstand. Plus for the kids a nice vanity is something they will love. Check out the one in my daughter’s room from Wayfair. We did not add the mirror on top as we did not want to block the light coming in the window. It is small and fits perfectly in the nook.  The site has a great selection of unique finds and a ton of cute vanity/make-up stands and sets here.  If you are on the hunt for some good deals check out Wayfair.com!

Disclosure: Wayfair sent me the vanity. All opinions in this post are my own.

Fashion trends: My top 10 fashion musts this winter

It’s cold in Boston and even though designers and trend setters are onto spring and summer the everyday mom needs to know what to wear from now until spring!  So unto my top fashion trends for winter 2015.

1.  Fur – not real fur but faux fur. It can keep you warm and it is fun too. The fur on the runways was a bit much and in bold colors but I like a nice black or brown fur vest to layer with a turtleneck.

2.  Gold – anything in this color – use it as an accent piece and/or a scarf or sweater to brighten up your wardrobe.

3. Sportswear – my yoga friends will like this.  Get it in fleece and other fun fabrics. So now you really can go from the gym to work  in sportswear and be trendy.

4.  Khaki – think military in structured look – bingo! I have a few, fun looks in my closet right now that are warm and toasty – perfect for the weather we have been having lately  – see photo below for some ideas.

5.  Aspen chic – of course with fringe detailing and cozy knits this is perfect for the cold days ahead. If  you had to add one thing to your wardrobe this is it.

6. Shearling  – According to vogue.com, “Shearling made its comeback as this season’s must-have piece.” Trends do come and go but usually there is always one that is a must and something that you can have in your wardrobe for years. This is it. This Faux Shearling coat from my closet I have had for ages. Glad I kept it!

7. Velvet – for an evening out makes a statement. I have a pair of velvet leggings I wear during the holiday season that I love.

8. Leopard – I have always loved this trend and just picked up a leopard sweater/sweatshirty top for $12.99. If you are thinking that is too much leopard for you try leopard accessories. A nice shoe – see below- a scarf or purse can add a pop of excitement to your wardrobe in anything leopard.

9. Black and White Graphic – According to Vogue.com “Designers presented intricately geometric patterns, Rorschach-style motifs and trompe l’Å“il effects. The prints of the season created hypnotic images and optical illusions.”  For the everyday woman just look for fun, striped patterns in black and white!

10. My favorite find – The Poncho -  I love this look and especially since I picked up a Burberry inspired one in the fall I am all set for the cold evenings out. I love to wear all black with my poncho and/or pair it with my red pants for a fun look.

Stay warm and trendy this winter. *Photos below taken by my 13 year old!

Awards season has begun @GoldenGlobes

The Golden Globe awards represents the kick off to the awards season in Hollywood and it is a favorite as it showcases both TV and the big screen films. While we love the awards part we also love the fashion trends!  The trends on the red carpet included metallic, navy, white and color (Yellow!! Red!!) in dresses and for men dark suits. My favorites include Amy Adams (this blue is the trendiest color this season) and Jenna Dewan-Tatum (she looked fab in yellow) Leslie Mann was also wearing yellow and looked great as well.  RED was a hit with Viola Davis shinning in a red stunner as well as Taylor Schilling’s bright red dress and Heidi Klum looked so elegant in red.

Metallic was a big trend on the carpet and I loved Reese Witherspoon, Kate Beckinsale and Diane Kruger in their sparkly dresses. Looking wonderful in white was Emily Blunt and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. White always looks so crisp and clean!

On the flip side as much as I love Kerry Washington I did not  like this particular dress on her as I felt it looked like Christmas wrapping paper.  The color black was a bit dark for the carpet and not a favorite color of mine for the evening and did not see any nice black dresses. OK Amal looked great – but get rid of the gloves. Not so great in black was Laura Preppon and not a fan of the black dress Edie Falco was wearing.

However navy was a good choice and Kelly Osbourne and Katherine Heigl’s dresses were fab!

For men’s fashions Matt Bomer and Don Chealte looked great. Alan Cummings not so much….was color was that suit?

Is is fun to see the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood awards scene. Here’s to a season of color and trends on the red carpet!

Holiday Magic @BostonBallet #BBNutcracker #Hosted

The music, the costumes, the leaps and magic – it’s the Boston Ballet’s performance of the Nutcracker!

The Nutcracker was Mikko Nissinen and Robert Perdziola’s first collaboration for Boston Ballet and it was just as magical as I remembered. A long time ago my parents took me as a child and I remember getting dressed up and being so excited. That same excitement I saw in my 10 year old as we made the trip to The Boston Opera House. It really was a great performance and especially for her as when she was 6 she was a mouse in a local performance of the nutcracker. She never really saw the whole nutcracker performance before and this was her first seeing the Boston Ballet performance.

I would recommend seeing it! Next year I would love to see it right after it opens in November to really get into the holiday spirit. I still always love the battle scene with the mice and of course the sugar plum fairy dance – really every scene was just great.

Performances run through December 31st and tickets are still available!

Disclosure:  I received two complementary tickets to the show. All opinions in this blog post are my own.

Gifts Under $15 Dollars: Shopping @tjmaxx

It is getting down to the wire as there are only nine more days to go to Christmas. I do love shopping at TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Marshalls as they really have the best selection of gifts. You can find some unique gift ideas, especially if you are on a budget. I found the most adorable items that would make a great gift for a friend, co-worker or tween. Here are some tips for last minute shoppers.

Look in the jewelry isle – That is where I found this jewelry box for $12.99. This season they seemed to have a lot of unique pieces from diamond like earrings to bracelets and more. A perfect selection for any girl you have to buy for.

Look in the accessory isle – They have cute scarfs and mittens there and some are on sale.

Don’t overlook the check-out line.  You know I am always a sucker for grabbing a few items in that check-out line.  But that is where someone must have decided at the last minute that they did not need this adorable Santa scarf. This is a great alternative to wear instead of that ugly sweater.  It is cute and was only $5.99.

For the fashionista on your list – Faux Fur is still trendy and if a coat or vest is too much this season try a clutch bag. I found this one for $9.99 at Homegoods! Yes, in line at the register. They do put some very cute items up front (so make sure to check here for last minute stocking stuffers)

A Day of Holiday Shopping @LindenSqWell

Ahhhh the holidays and shopping – it can be fun if you have a spot that has nice stores, shops to eat and a little coffee too. A few blogger friends and I were invited to check out the shops at Linden Square in Wellesley and what a fun time we had.

From Bella Sante to Pure Barre there are great holiday gift idea at this hot spot of shops and more called Linden Square.

Our first stop at the shop, sip and stroll was Salon Maleah – at this location they have a holiday blow dry bundle on sale as well as great products to choose from. Grab a bag of products and a gift card to make a perfect stocking stuffer.

Our next stop was Pure Barre. The girls at the desk were so happy and fit and now I know why this was on my list to check out – I want to be in shape and happy too!  For new clients the special is $75 a month, regularly $100.

Tobey Grey has a lot to offer -nice denim, nice sweaters, overall a very nice clothing store for women! Not comfortable choosing a size for your significant other? Get a gift card here and it will be the best gift she will get.

We stopped at Ceri and here is where the personal stylist comes in. They can help you put together a look from head to toe with clothes and jewelry to handbags and even more accessories. They have the most adorable clutches and necklaces here.

Bonsoir is where we learned the art of napkin folding. Here is the store to get the hostess a gift this season. They have the finest linens, candles, a bit of jewelry and more.

Of course with our group of whom many were mom bloggers, we had to check out Magic Beans and find out more about all the toys on the must have list. They have wonderful creative toys for boys and girls and creative toys tops our list including my favorite playmobile!

Kenzie & Tiny Hanger is where the youngest fashionistas get their clothing. Kenzie also has a women’s line now too so moms can be just as fashionable. My favorites were the donut pillows but they also have a nice selection of purses, kids jewelry and shoes.  This is the must stop if you are looking for a unique holiday dress for your tween girl!

Bella Sante is one of my favorite spots and I did just get a facial there last month with my teen (her first facial!) They also have a very nice display of all great products from lip balms, hair ties and skin creams which are perfect for stocking stuffers for her!

Our day of shopping ended at The Cottage. If you have not been to this beautiful restaurant you have to try it. Their luncheon specials of 1/2 salad and sandwich is just perfect! But wait, we did have a bit of desert at the fine jewelry location IMPULSE and we were able to choose a beautiful Sisco Berluti bracelet. These would make the perfect gift for mom and tween as they are shinny and stackable!

Disclosure: This event was hosted and we were treated to a lunch at The Cottage in addition to receiving a gift bag with goodies and a few gift cards. All opinions in this blog post are my own!
