Shop for a cause. There is still time left!

I always like to recommend a good product. As October is breast cancer awareness, there is still time to shop for a cause. Here are some great gift ideas that also give back. We love them all.

Eos Lip Balm – When this product first came out I was obsessed! Lip balm in a smooth ball is so cute. This breast cancer awareness 2 pack is only $6.49 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit breast cancer research.

Spa Ritual nail polish- SpaRitual’s ‘In Pink’ collection for BCA Month is just a great gift. SpaRitual, an eco-friendly beauty brand, uses vegan and organic ingredients. The formulations are naturally colored and free of synthetic dyes. 20 percent of sales from SpaRitual’s ‘In Pink’ nail lacquer collection go to Cancer Schmancer™, founded by actress and cancer survivor, Fran Drescher. Cancer Schmancer is dedicated to saving lives through prevention & early detection of cancer. The collection includes the following colors: Idyllic, Loving In Pink, Love Is In The Air and Fran-tastic Pink.

Mel’s bracelets – Friends of Mel Foundation in Rockland, Mass – This started In 2005: a small circle of friends joined together to raise funds for cancer research in memory of their dear friend Mel Simmons (who was from Hingham, Mass.). Instead of a hopeful $5,000 the women raised an incredible $1 million in that first year. Since then, the foundation has gifted a total of $3 million to 45 different cancer causes around the country. Known for Mel’s Bracelets, colorful beaded bracelets that have a global following of half a million women – they symbolize friendship, love and support. They have two colorful bracelets: one for $20 and a special edition Mel’s bracelet with genuine Swarovski Crystal rounds for $45.

Paul Mitchell Products – Paul Mitchell Limited-Edition “The Girls Are Alright” Collection: Paul Mitchell is inspiring women to take matters into their own hands, and make sure their “girls are alright.” In support of the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation, limited-edition Paul Mitchell tools and styling products are emblazoned with bold words of encouragement, to help spread the message that “early detection rulez.”

Included in these products are: Paul Mitchell Haute Rollers Travel Set: This set of six premium, 1” hot rollers in a pink thermal bag is perfect for girls on the go; Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum: Super Skinny® Complex penetrates deep into hair to displace water and constrict hair for speedy drying and styling; Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press: hair spray: Rice hull extract builds a weightless barrier between hair and heat styling tool; Paul Mitchell Express Ion Smooth: Express Ion Complex ™ smooths hair from the inside out for healthy, shiny results and Paul Mitchell Detangling Brush: Super soft bristles massage scalp.

Estée Lauder Companies’ brands have joined together to sell Pink Ribbon products to raise awareness for breast cancer and funds for medical research. The Estée Lauder Companies’ brands are united in the belief that a world without breast cancer can exist. The 2013 theme, “Let’s Defeat Breast Cancer. We’re Stronger Together.”, is a call-to-action that will serve to shift public focus from awareness to increased action, advancing us further towards eradicating breast cancer from our lives. To date, The BCA Campaign has raised more than $48 million to support global research, education and medical services. This year’s BCA Campaign is committed to raising $5 million to support breast cancer research, education and medical services worldwide. The 2013 BCA Campaign by Pink Ribbon products include: Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and bumble, Clinique, Coach, Darphin, Donna Karan Cosmetics, Estée Lauder, Jo Malone London, La Mer, Lab Series Skincare for Men, Origins, Prescriptives, Smashbox and Tom Ford Beauty. We especially love the La Mer hand cream in its pink container and the Estee Lauder Dream Lip Collection.

Columbus Day Weekend – Treats from The Merrimack Valley

It is always nice to have a day off to enjoy the outdoors and some treats! This weekend we visited my dad and made visits to my hometown spots that my kids have grown to love.

1.  Raymonds Turkey Farm – for many years my family has enjoyed these homemade turkey pies and now both my kids love them. We even have Turkey Pie Monday in our house but on the Mondays when we substitute Raymonds for another brand each of us is a little sad as we have not found the combination of thin, all white meat turkey and dark gravy in other turkey pies.

2. Mann Orchards -

This is another favorite, especially for  their whoopie pies and other yummy cakes and pies. Plus I was able to pick up apples, since we have not gone apple picking this season!

3.  Tripoli pizza – or beach pizza as we call it is a must visit when we take a trip to visit grandpa!  With a location now in North Andover we can enjoy our summertime favorite all year!

Back to School!

The summer went by so fast. I cannot believe school is in session! We were just swimming in the ocean last week and were even swimming in the pool on Monday. Now they are back and the house is a bit quiet, but not for long.  All the sports, activities and homework will be starting soon enough.  I loved seeing all the back to school photos on social media all day long on Tuesday. Here are my little ones (no really that little anyone!) geeze…..where does the time go????

Back to school time: a backpack, lunch gear and more

Today on 980 WCAP-AM we were talking back to school items! It is almost that time – do you have your backpacks ready and lunch boxes set? If not check out some of these cool items that came across the trendymommies.com desk.

Backpacks – Love LL Bean backpacks as they are PVC and BPA free and they last forever.  My 9 year old is using the backpack we got for my 12 year old last year and it’s as good as new. They really have the best selection for kids of all ages. We do like how if you visit the store they help with the sizing for your child.

Whole Foods sells the adorable Crocodile Creek backpacks and lunch boxes that are perfect for preschoolers that are eco-friendly and cute. Whole Foods also had the Eco Kids ice packs, and quite the selection of all natural items to store in your kids backpacks from lip balms to hand sanitizer and even a bamboo utensil set. The whole foods vanilla honey lip balm is great and if your middle schooler needs a good hand wipe (great for after gym class) have them try the Alba Botanica hawaiian 3 in 1 clean towelettes. We tested them out and they smell great!

Lunch storage needs to be fun, bright and colorful! The Plymouth based cool gear makes a great selection of lunch sacks, water bottles, salad storage items that are all BPA free.

Especially for the younger kids lice can continue to be a problem throughout the school year.  Babo Botanicals makes the best lice prevention kit. The shampoo and spray is 95% effective in preventing lice according to the company website. The great smelling tea tree scent is not too overpowering and is a must have for busy moms. I also love the moisturizing baby shampoo and wash, especially in the summertime – it’s perfect for dry skin.

If you struggle with your child in the morning rush with brushing their hair then you need a knot genie! It is a pain-free way to brush kids hair and even get them to brush their own hair. It is really what moms want. We tested it out and it really works.

For the college crew: grab a go go pillow for a fun way to store your tablet and read in bed.  My tweens actually love this pillow. It holds the tablet so you can have it on your lap. It folds up as a travel pillow and can even work as a backpack (perfect if younger kids head to grandmas after school) Waterbobble.com is another neat invention and a must have at college. Its’ a BPA free water bottle with a filter right inside and affordable starting at $9.99. Now you can have filtered water at your fingertips.  If you just want to carry your phone here is a must have accessory that is slim and holds your id, a credit card and some cash. CardNinja.com is a great accessory for apple, android and blackberry phones. It fits right on the back eliminating the need for a wallet!
